ultrasound imaging

How Our Ultrasound Imaging Work

Ultrasound imaging is a new and exciting musculoskeletal tool that is revolutionizing the orthopedic health care world. A diagnostic ultrasound machine sends sound waves into the body, the sound waves then reflect off the body in order to produce an image. Normal functioning body tissue will provide echoes from the sound waves in a typical fashion. Abnormal tissue will display a different image. In this case, your doctor of physical therapy can use this imaging to discover dysfunction and pathology that can be missed in a routine physical exam.

ultrasound Imaging BENEFITS

An effective and efficient alternative to MRI, ultrasound imaging provides an effective means of detecting many issues in the musculoskeletal system.

  • Rotator cuff injuries
  • Achilles tendon tears
  • Ligament sprains
  • Carpal tunnel
  • Plantar fasciitis
  • Bone spurs
  • and more!
MOST INSURANCE COMPANIES WILL MAKE YOU WAIT FOR AN MRI,
BUT STAATS PHYSICAL THERAPY CAN PROVIDE AN IMAGE SAME DAY!

Dr. Staats has received advanced accreditation in the use of Musculoskeletal (MSK) Ultrasound Imaging. This allows the physical therapists at Staats Physical Therapy to devise a more appropriate treatment plan and determine if there is a need for an outside referral.

dry needling

Dry needling is a form of therapy in which fine needles are inserted into myofascial trigger points to stimulate a healing response in painful musculoskeletal conditions. It is a modern, science-based intervention for the treatment of pain and dysfunction in musculoskeletal conditions such as neck pain, shoulder impingement, tennis elbow, carpal tunnel syndrome, headaches, knee pain, shin splints, plantar fasciitis, or low back pain.

Manual Therapy

Manual Therapy

Manual physical therapy is a unique treatment approach integrating hands-on techniques with ongoing assessment to stretch and manipulate soft tissue throughout the body. Throughout the course of aging or after periods of immobilization, joints become more viscous and lose their ability to respond to the stresses of daily activities. These same joints will gradually lose their range of motion, create adaptive shortening of the adjacent muscles and overall create aberrant functioning. Manual physical therapists provide patients with a comprehensive evaluation seeking to identify restricted joints and/or unstable joints.

Manual therapy can consist of a gentle stretch to muscle tissue, a muscle energy technique to correct a positional fault, a joint mobilization to improve normal arthrokinematic motion or even a high-velocity low amplitude thrust to stimulate Type 3 mechanoreceptors and increase mobility. Dr. Staats utilizes an array of these techniques and others to provide his patients with relief from pain and restore optimal functional mobility.

According to the Journal of Manual & Manipulative Therapy, patients treated by therapists with Manual Therapy Certification reported higher functional outcomes than those without. (JMMT Vol. 12 No. 1 2004, 32-43)
